What is the elastomeric membrane made of?

The elastomeric membrane for flat (or very low-slope) roofs is made of SBS-modified bitumen: a base layer reinforced with polyester and a top layer also made of SBS-modified bitumen.

During installation, the top membrane is heated with a torch to soften it and fuse it to the base layer. This technique creates optimal adhesion to the roof, even in corners and gaps.

Colored granules are then added on top to protect the membrane from UV rays and increase its resistance to impacts. The manufacturer offers several color options for the granules.

Thanks to its bitumen and polymer (rubber-like plastic) composition, the elastomeric membrane adheres solidly to the roof and is 100% waterproof.

This strength allows it to withstand extreme cold and heat, as well as all kinds of weather. A fire-retardant component is also included in the product.

If you choose white granules for the top layer of your membrane, your building will stay cooler in summer since white reflects sunlight, keeping the roof from heating up as much as it would with black granules.
